There are two standards of ballroom dance: “International Ballroom”, which is danced world-wide and rapidly gaining popularity in the U.S., and “American Smooth”, created here and still the standard most widely recognized socially by dancers here in Louisville and in ballroom dance studios all around the United States.

Beginners often choose Ballroom and Smooth dances to start their training because the dances promote the most important fundamentals of partner dancing including: leading/following, balance, timing, and dance frame. With a solid foundation of fundamentals, couples may dance socially with confidence and grace. This also leads to a greater opportunity to explore rhythm and stylization in other dances without having to revert back to the basics time after time.
