These are some of the most frequently asked questions here at Bravo Dance Studio.
(we’re even providing you with the answers!)
How long does it take to learn to dance like Jennifer Lopez in “Shall We Dance”?
At Bravo, we won’t put you on a strict schedule, because we know that you are an individual. Your time is important to you, and that makes it important to us, too. We guarantee you will be dancing after your first lesson. And yes, we can teach you to dance like in the movies: Dirty Dancing, Strictly Ballroom, and Shall We Dance.
Do I need a partner?
Absolutely not! The majority of our students come without partners. During group classes we rotate every few minutes so that you have an opportunity to meet and dance with everyone in the class. That’s half the fun! In your private lessons you will be dancing with your instructor if you are flying solo.
What should I wear?
“Nice casual” is the general rule of thumb, as long as you are comfortable and have freedom of movement. Khakis, slacks, skirts, and nice tops or shirts are all good choices as dancewear. Parties tend to be a little more dressy, but don’t worry – dance costumes are not part of everyday dancewear. .
What about shoes?
Shoes with leather soles are the easiest to dance in. We find that shoes with rubber soles, such as sneakers, provide too much traction and sometimes leave marks on the floor. And sandals often don’t offer enough support for your feet and have a tendency to fall off. Shoes that lace up or have secure straps are your best bet. Later, when you choose to continue your dancing, your instructor can recommend ballroom dance shoes.
I’m ready to begin. Should I take group classes or private lessons?
We recommend both. Private lessons are a time for you to work one-on-one with your instructor at your own pace. Steps can really be broken down so that you “get it.” Plus, they are tailored to your personal goals so you can work on whatever you choose or need to improve upon. Group classes are a great way to learn new steps with a variety of partners. You learn to lead and follow in a social dance setting. This can be a fun way to check out a new style of dance or practice what you’ve been working on in your private lessons.
When can I take my first lesson?
Our Bravo instuctors are here for you. We can accommodate your schedule, seven days a week. Call today, dance today. It’s that easy!
How do I know what to work on in my private lessons?
Your Bravo Dance Studio instructor can help in developing a lesson plan specifically for you. You can choose to concentrate on one or two different dances, or get a general overview of several dances. And we’re flexible—if you want to try something new, just ask!
What dances should I learn if I want to dance in clubs?
Swing and salsa are the most popular dances in club scene right now. You might also want to supplement these with cha-cha and merengue, then you’ll have your bases covered. All four of these dances are fun and easy to learn. Plus, your instructor can help you learn to recognize the music that goes with these dances so you can be burnin’ up the dance floor in no time!
What do you recommend for first wedding dance?
Waltz and foxtrot are the most popular dances in this setting, although if you have something else in mind we can definitely accommodate your request. When you set up your first lesson your instructor will listen to your music and custom tailor some nice choreography specifically for you.
